RE-IMAGINING LEADERSHIP (3/4)

When she became a young female leader of the village council, Hansa Thapliyal encouraged the women in her village to re-think their role in life in the mountains. Despite attempts being made to remove her from positions of leadership and her life being threatened, she persisted. Finding solutions to the community's many problems - economic and ecological - Hansa came through with the unbinding support of her people. She continues to inspire with her indomitable spirit - gentle and fierce.

We produced a series of four short documentaries set in Uttarakhand and Odisha, where women in positions of leadership have completely transformed their communities. From the youngest woman sarpanch in Uttarakhand's modern history to two best friends in their 60's transforming the meaning of leadership in the mountains, these sets of stories were a pleasure to work on! A big shout out to The Hunger Project for trusting us with these stories.
