In 2007, the Timbaktu Collective set up a livelihood initiative - a sari manufacturing unit for marginalised rural women. This radical move broke barriers linked to weaving in India - religion, family, gender and caste.
This initiative was named Bhavani, the source of all creative energy. Today, this vibrant ground of women are skilled first generation weavers and dyers, known for producing unique, naturally dyed cotton handloom products.
